Defford Short Mat Bowls Club

Welcome!

Defford Short Mat Bowls Club is open to all ages and is a great place to meet, socialise and play the indoor game of short mat bowls-from beginner all the way to County standard. This format of bowls requires less effort than outdoors, but has the advantage of using the same bowls.

We are members of the English Short Mat Bowling Association (ESMBA) which in turn is a member of the Bowls Development Alliance(BDA) working closely with and includes Disability Bowls England (DBA) as a member organisation .

The ESMBAs own policies also explicitly state a commitment to inclusion, recognising its duty to make responsible adjustments for disabled persons and working with them to enable fuller participation in the sport of short mat bowls .

We play in Defford Village Hall, which is a modern facility, with one of the best floors in the county on which to play short mat bowls.We are also blessed with ample car parking on site .

We have a long tradition of opening our sport to all ages and abilities who would like to play short mat bowls .We hope you will come along and enjoy our company and our excellent indoor facilities .

About Us

Who We Are:

Defford Short Mat Bowls Club , playing in Gloucestershire leagues, (see GSMBA website )
Currently our club has 40 members who are all registered to play in League /County matches .

On average 60% of members just play frequently in the club sessions , with 40% nominating to play in League Fixtures .

Defford club has a high profile within GSMBA , being represented in all their competitions. We also participate in charity events in Worcestershire and Herefordshire .

Session Times

We play 4 times per week , not weather dependant!!
Tuesday and Wednesday 2pm to 4pm
Thursday and Friday 7pm to 9pm

We have a refreshment break of 10 minutes midway through each session

Dress Code

Casual dress including shorts.
Flat bottom shoes, outdoor shoes must be changed prior to play.
League matches, club shirts and black below waist, bowls trousers or bowls shorts .

Costs / Membership / Session

The annual cost of membership is £30 paid in April.
There is a reduced fee of £20 for outdoor bowlers who only want to play in the Winter.
Session fees are £2.50 per 2 hour session , including tea/coffee and biscuits.
Our club is cashless, charged quarterly retrospectively, paid by bank transfer.
