2019 - TORQUAY

We left Bredon at 8.00 am on Monday and after a nice trip to Torquay we arrived in time to grab a sandwich before walking down to play a match at Kings B C whose green looks out over Torbay.

They decided not to select any of their International players, what a mistake as we ran out winners by 108 to 90. Dave Doyle assisted by Leslie Hine, John Woodcock & Keith Davies produced the performance of the day so little Si was presented to them together with a garland which they had to wear until the next day.

On Tuesday morning we took a trip to Brixham where we were able to stroll for a short while in the lovely fresh air and fishy smells. We played a match at Torbay Country B C and what an absolute pleasure it was.. We won the 9 rink match by 197 to 138. They were by far the friendliest team that we played against and I would like you to read the following. The highlight of the day was without doubt the last few ends as Moz, Jeff, Kate and John Doody battled for the right to have little Si for the night. At the end of the match it was the Rink of Ash, June, Barb and Moz who triumphed. Much to the pleasure of the whole Bredon Team.

On Wednesday morning we took a trip to Teignmouth then after a stroll in the sunshine we went to play Torquay BC. We managed to win again by 126 to 117. Martin, June (again), Speedy and George were today winners of Si and their garlands.

On Thursday we went to play Chudliegh B C who had visited us last year and it was great to renew acquaintances with them again. The match was played in good spirit with plenty of banter and laughter. Winning again for the fourth time 116 to 104.

After dinner a small group of us sat in the Conway Bar for a quiet drink or two. Already in the Bar were the Littleton players. After a while one of their members decided to tell a joke. This was te starting point for a version of the old TV show. “THE COMEDIANS”. Several of their group told jokes and it was not long before George was chomping at the bit to have a go, which he duly did. Then Oli and John Woodcock wanted a piece of the action, Ros looked suitably embarrassed, however John was not deterred in telling his jokes and added plenty of movement whilst on the floor. Frankly the movement was better than most of the jokes

On Friday morning Pauline ask John if he had enjoyed the previous evening to which John replied “I DON’T REMEMBER A THING!!” Finally it would appear that all 54 tourists enjoyed their week away and we were blessed with brilliant weather on all days except Monday when it was overcast.

We were also fortunate to have Chris our driver take us again as he drove us safely and comfortably throughout the week. His jokes were a little suspect but he was great to be with again. Captain Jack (AHA AHA) collected a few fines during the tour and he and I have agreed that any surplus funds from the tour would be added to the fines and given to a charity to be sorted out on our return.

There Were several other incidences that took place, but as they saying goes, “WHAT GOES ON TOUR STAYS ON TOUR!” Thank You Pauline and Mike Kelly

EDITORS NOTES:- This is Pauline and Mike’s last time they will set up and run a Tour for the Club. May we all say they will be sorely missed, and they are going to be a hard act to follow regarding their preparation and the running of their Tours (ALL 7 OF THEM) and not forgetting the laughter. Cheers DENZIL
