2023 Dawlish Warren 60th Anniversary Tour Report

We took 50 members on Tour to Dawlish Warren this year. The Langstone Cliff Hotel was magnificent. Great staff, great food and great views as the Gallery will show.

We played 4 games throughout the 5 days.

Monday Dawlish Won 4 rinks lost on 3 lost overall by 8/ Tuesday Newton Abbot won on 5 rinks lost on 2 won by 49 points

Wednesday Madeira won on 3 rinks lost on 4 but won by 1 point/ Thursday Babbacombe won on 3 rinks lost on 4 won by 5 points

So all in all 4 matches with 3 wins and 1 loss, a very successful Tour. Not forgetting the Bredon Bowling Club Choir who gave renditions at each venue to wide acclaim from the home sides

The cruise on the Exmouth Estuary was a delight. Everyone sunning themselves on top deck. The weather throughout the tour was excellent, sunny with a slight breeze some days.

On one of the barmy evenings we had our Pete Litchfield “singalong”. Sitting outside on the large hotel veranda looking out to sea. What a great evening. More was to come as Jack Pullin was coming home from his exploits in the World Bowls Championship in Australia. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when he appeared, everyone glad to him back especially Mum and Dad. Big thank you to Rich Woodward who pick Jack up from Exeter Bus station were Jack arrived from Heathrow.

Our mascot Si as you all know is kept overnight by the Captain of the loosing Rink on the day. Si has now grown up and not only does he have a bowls uniform he now has for evening attire a dress suit. This now has to be put on before Si comes down for dinner. Si’s then revert to his playing gear in the morning. As opposite

.Thursday started with the annual Crazy Golf tournament, 32 members taking part this year. The course was 12 holes long and the winner was Dave Yendole with 27. Runner up was Chris Doody after being tied with Lesley and Trevor Clark on 32. If there was a tie, the deciding factor was score on first hole. Chris had a hole in one so the Birthday Girl duly took second spot. One week on and the Crazy Golf Course was under water from flash flooding as per the picture in Gallery

Thursday evening was the normal BGT ”Bredon’s Got Talent”. Ann Bruckshaw with her usual delivery had us in fits of laughter. Bob Clarke told his sad story and I’ll never think of glow worm again in the same way!! Sue Bishop surprised us all by singing a lovely song. Be careful Sue you could be destined for the BBC Choir!! Thanks again to Pete Litchfield for playing and hosting the Singalong.

After dinner we were presented by a cake made by one of the staff to celebrate our 60th Anniversary. Ian Day then gave out the prizes for the Tour and Bob Clarke the did his Tour Fines, from wrong biases to testing bath water with a sock which had a foot in it!!. We raised £80 on the Fines for the” Children’s Air Ambulance”

Big Thank you to Ian and Annett Day, In particular Ian for his enthusiasm and Organisation of the Tour, Golf and the Boat.

Let’s hope Sidmouth and The Bedford Hotel live up to this year’s standards of Hotel, Hospitality, Bowls Clubs and Tour Members.

Thank you all for making it a wonderful Tour!! One to remember!!

On Behalf of Ian and Anette, Demo and Mrs Demo thank you for your kind gift from the Tour members to us.
